Work injury prevention: The basic concept of safety and health in the workplace


The two biggest things that cause work injury are: unsafe behavior and unsafe environmental conditions, based on data from the Bureau of Manpower Training, the cause of injury that have occurred so far are caused by unsafe behavior as follows:
1. reckless and careless
2. does not comply with regulations
3. not follow standard work procedures.
4. not wearing protective equipment
5. weak body condition
Percentage of the causes of workplace injury is 3% due to reasons that can not be avoided (such as natural disasters), other than that of 24% due to the environment or equipment that do not qualify and 73% due to unsafe behavior. An effective way to prevent injuryis to avoid the occurrence of five unsafe behaviors mentioned above.


Therefore, appropriate measures should be taken to labor and equipment, so that workers have the concept of occupational safety and health in order to prevent accidents.

If so, education of health and safety in workplace is very important. The goal, among others, to protect the health of the workforce, improve working efficiency, prevent the occurrence of workplace injury and diseases. Here are various safety and health  tips at work:

   1. Anticipating the existence of the causes of hazards and take preventive earlier.
   2. Understanding the types of hazards that exist in the workplace
   3. Evaluating the level of hazard in the workplace
   4. Controlling the occurrence of danger or complications.

Related to safety, hazardous factors are most commonly found include:

1. Type of chemical hazard: inhalation or the occurrence of contact between the skin with a liquid metal, liquid non-metal, hydrocarbons and ash, gases, vapors, steam, smoke and poisonous dew.

2. Type of physics hazard: environmental hot and cold temperature, environment radiating ionizing and non ionizing radiation, noise, vibration and air pressure is not normal.

3. Dangers that threaten humans due to the type of project: lighting and lighting that is less, the danger of transportation, and hazards posed by the equipment.

As for how to control health Safety hazards are:

1. Technical Control: changing work procedures, closing isolating hazardous materials, using the automation of work, using wet workings and ventilation air turnover.

2. Administrative control: reducing the exposure time, arrange health and safety rules, wearing protective equipment, installing warning signs, make a list of data safe materials, conducting training of emergency handling system.

t , The employers should enlisted his worker to insurance program to ensure the work safety. If there is work-related injuries happen to the employees, the company should give them a work injury compensation. If not they can face a law suit from the employees. Mostly, the employee that not happy about the compensation policy that company has related to work injury, will go to a lawyer. In this case, work injury lawyers who will represent the employee’s right to  claiming compensation .
